Day 11 - Wait, I can Eat That?

Hello, everyone, back home. It’s the Jebastian blog with Jacob and Sebastian.

Jacob here!

Today me and my team of superheroes headed back to the school for some more painting! Turns out, we really are super! Everything is basically done so we were able to add a quick coat in the beginning, and then relax with some papaya and more homemade ice cream! Did you know some people don’t like the taste of papaya? After painting and  some 2016 music, we headed to lunch where we had rice, beans, veggies, and some beef stew! After lunch, super justin continued helping us paint the walls blue while we started working on the computers making vocabulary flashcards for the elementary school. DEFINITELY didn’t go to Instagram or snapchat immediately! But we really put a lot of effort in those flashcards as those will go to the students to help them learn English!

Alright, givin it to big Sebastian now!

Sup yall, Sebastian here! Today, the farm group finished painting the cow house as well as adding the second layer of paint to the compost classroom. Although Daniel wasn’t there today, his daughter, Ellie, helped us and also took some sick photos. Randle also showed us how to puncture coconuts and even split them in half. Overall, we got all the painting done and can move onto fixing the farm area up, and then hopefully starting the fish ponds for his farm on Monday.

The last group went to the co-op and they had a fantastic day at work. They started the day by mixing concrete in order to create a path to expand a pig pen. They mixed that cement like an Italian chef mixes spaghetti. Like a French baker mixes cake batter. They were mixing masters. Master mixers. It was enchanting. They also had some delicious tamarindo juice! Once they finished working with the concrete, they headed to the restaurant for lunch to wrap up the hard day of work.

After work, we went to a medicinal botany class where we tried multiple different plants that were used for their medicinal properties. Some plants were sour, some sweet, but most were bitter and lowkey disgusting. Overall, the experience was super rewarding, especially when Jaime, the botanist, explained to us the history of each plant and which ailments it could cure.

We saw another sloth!

We are all looking forward to heading La Fortuna tomorrow super early in the morning. We’ve heard so many great things about it from our homestay families, and cannot wait to report back soon!

Peace out yall ,

Jebastian (aka Jacob and Sebastian)
