Day 16- Final Day of Work
Hey everyone!
Wanis and Kiran, writing today’s blog.
It’s Wanis! As we rolled up to the school, there was a sense of bittersweet excitement. Today was our last day at the community projects, and the school group was not looking forward to saying goodbye to all the children we were able to help. Today was the day of the festival of arts, which celebrated all the art the students had created. Our group was so excited to watch all the students show their art, and we even had the chance to perform a traditional Mexican dance for the audience called El Payaso de Rodeo. Today we also got a chance to see our completed painted classroom. Attached are some photos of the before and after, and we’re so shocked by the results! We ended the day saying goodbye to everyone, and we were so proud of all of our great work we did at the school.
At the farm, they knew it was going to be a day of hard work. After grabbing some rubber boots from the EcoLodge, they headed over to the farm and upon arrival begun work on clearing ground for some fish ponds. It was really fun; everyone was knee deep in mud. They made good progress, and it was a great way to end five hard days of work at the project.
Kiran here. Today the co-op group went to the community center in downtown San Ramon. There, we repainted the inside of the dancing hall, from a drab green to a more lively sky blue. The five of us (plus Quinn) worked cohesively and efficiently on the task, finishing the entirety of the work, well surpassing the expectations for the day. After washing the paint off as best we could, we headed to our usual lunch spot. We were all sad that this would be our last day at the women’s Co-Op. However, a quick picture with one of the cooks lifted spirits significantly, and we all agreed that the Co-Op was a wonderful experience that allowed us to impact and help a wide variety of people.
Pura Vida,
Wanis & Kiran
